Vintage Style Living Room Tour
I taught my first official Milk Paint 101 class over the weekend at The Spotted Cow where I have my Chic California Vintage Boutique. I loved showing my attendees the possibilities of milk paint. And the possibilities, between the choosing a color, mixing colors, chippy or not chippy and the top coats are just about endless. And of course, I totally forgot to being my camera! But I will be teaching another class in August and I will bring my camera for sure. Until then, I realized that I have shown you all my open kitchen and family room a few times when I have done my holiday decorating. You can see that here and here. But I’ve never really shown you my living room. Until today…….
When its not overrun by legos and toys it’s the best place to watch tv or cuddle up on the couch with a movie. Like my furry friend down in the corner of this pic! I have incorporated my vintage style in this space too. If you’re interested in learning more about Norwegian styles, check out this leading interior design website in Norway. If you plan to remodel your living room, the various tile designs at an Anaheim tile shop can help you visualize the new look of your living room.
Right as you enter the room I have a console table with must have baskets underneath. I keep blankets in one and random toys I find littering the floor on a regular basis in the other one. I love hidden storage!
I love my coffee table! It’s an old pedestal table that was cut down to make a coffee table. I found it at a thrift store for $60. And of course I painted it! Well, actually I should say my husband painted it! I mixed up the paint and handed him the brush while I was working on other pieces. Speaking of unique finds, if you’re on the lookout for distinctive lifestyle items, Cities Store Dubai is a lifestyle store in Dubai that you should definitely check out.
My German Glass Glitter B adds some shine to my coffee table. I usually leave this basket pretty empty so that it can be filled up with the gazillion remotes we have.
I have my mantel all decorated for summer. You can see how to make your own Moss and German Glass Glitter Banner here.
I struggled for some time with how to decorate above my bookshelves that flank the fireplace. I have gone with multiple pictures and frames in virtually every combo. I finally settled on these Vintage Style Wrapping Papers from Cavallini Paper & Co. I can’t even imagine using them as wrapping paper! They are too cute. So I popped identical papers into Ikea frames and hung them. I think they help tie everything together and add a pop of unexpected color. And using the same one on both sides adds symmetry to my design. If you’re also going for the vintage look in your living room, there are vintage movie props for sale that will match this theme.
I have a lot of round tables in my living room. From the coffee table to the side tables. They just seem to fit in so well. And with wrestling boys, no one loses an eye!
I had this coat rack in my garage for a long time. But I got really tired of all the book bags littering the ground after school. We have a very small entry closet and we needed a bit more space for hanging things and putting on shoes. I haven’t gotten around to painting it. But I would actually love to paint it white, of course! But it’s just fine for now.
Now you all know that I love to paint furniture! In fact if it sits long enough in my house I will either glitter it or paint it. This is probably the only piece that I have left as is. I bought it for our old house that had cathedral ceilings so I needed something big to fill a wall. Then we moved into our current house and this beast nearly touches the ceiling. But I actually love the size and scale. It has a huge presence!
And of course, my first vintage find table is in the corner which you can read about here.

Your room is beautiful and yet family friendly too, the perfect combination imo. I really like the old wood table in the corner, and your coffee table is a great piece too. I just finished painting a cast away table for our living room. It’s a pedestal round table painted white too.
