Ugly Alert! Avocado Green Console Table To Restoration Hardware Style Beauty
I have a love affair with anything from Restoration Hardware. But in true love affair style, someone always gets hurt. In this case it’s my wallet! Anytime I can rekindle the romance with very little $, I’m all for it! I found this super ugly green console table at an estate sale last summer. Yes, this is another project I have been meaning to get to and just finally finished it up.
Isn’t this really ugly? I think the reason this makeover waited so long was because I wasn’t quite sure anything could bring this table out of it’s misery. Until I had a vision of it looking something like this……
Of course, my table isn’t weathered oak and it never will be. But I wanted that weather oak finish! I just had to figure out a way to fake the look. Using some leftover Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Coco, I gave my console table 2 coats of paint. I didn’t sand it or anything afterwards, I wanted the texture.
Then I mixed up my own Liming Wax out of Sweet Pickins Clear Wax and General Finishes Antique White Milk Paint. (Don’t get the General Finishes Milk Paint confused with the Sweet Pickins Milk Paint I use to get the chippy finish. They are two very different paints! The GF Milk Paint is an acrylic paint. ) I’m sharing with you my exact recipe and technique here.
But the results were pretty darn good if I do say so for myself!
Exact? Of course not. But for the price of an estate sale table with some leftover paint over the price of the real deal. I’ll take it!
I love how the wax really got into the texture of the paint.
So much better than avocado green! And let’s not forget my RH Inspired Books. You can make your own using this tutorial here.
The love affair with RH style can continue!

Very pretty Adrienne! I love the lines of the table and the color/wax combination you chose looks wonderful. And so much easier on the pocketbook!

I saw this the other day at The Spotted Cow! I immediately knew that it had to be one of your pieces. It’s gorgeous! I wish that I had some place to put it in my house.

Great job Adrienne! How was that avocado green ever a good choice for anything?!?! My grandma had a refrigerator in that color for most of my childhood and still has the stove. I can’t wait to see how to do the paint treatment tomorrow, because I think it turned out so well. Your staging is great on this table, too!

I will never know why that green was ever cool. Could they not make other colors in the 70’s?
