DIY Vintage Photo Craft for Halloween
Have you ever found a box of old pictures in an antique store and wondered who those people were? And better yet, how did their photos end up in a box at an antique store? Truth be told, it always makes me a little sad for them. What if that is what happens to my family photos someday? I mean at some point maybe I will run out of relatives down the road to store my photos forever. But even more mysterious to me than the current location of these photos is the smiles behind them. Or half smiles that is. Why didn’t anyone ever smile back in the Old Days? Was life that hard or did it just take so long to take the picture that their face muscles couldn’t hold those frozen smiles up any longer. There is a certain Mona Lisa sensibility to these pics.
A trip to the Alameda Antiques Faire last weekend gave me the perfect opportunity to bring some of these new friends home. Honestly, I look at these people and really wonder about their story!! Like this lady. What is behind that sly smile?
Or this woman? Was she a teacher? A businesswoman? Was she a wife and mother like me? I’m sure her kids never drove her nuts, she’s far to elegant for that! I wonder if we would be friends?
Or this man? Surely, he was a very important person in his community.
Here is a pic of all the new friends that I brought home. All were only a $1 or 2 each. Far too little in my opinion for a moment captured in time. A moment someone once thought was priceless.
How could I incorporate my new friends into my decor? I think their mystery lends itself perfectly to a little Chic California Halloween treatment. So with a quick trip to the craft store and some pre-made scrapbooking supplies I had just the right tools like a torque wrench to enhance the mystery at home by doing some changes.
Aah, now I know why this woman has that sly grin!
And this woman? Her secret is no longer safe!
He may be an important man by day, but by night he is whipping up spells in his haunted house.
And here are all my new friends. Lined up and ready to add some Spookyness to my Halloween display. I feel like I know a little bit more about each and every one. Now that they are so Chic!
(And just to add to their mystery, every time I took a photo of my friends, my camera would ask me if someone blinked? Maybe they did…maybe they did. Insert the creepy music now.)
