C&B Striped Rug Hack
Hopefully, you aren’t getting sick and tired looking at my HomeOffice/ Craft Room Makeover. I’m just so happy with it every time I walk into the room that I want to share more and more with you. Especially, since I did it on a budget and I mostly used what I already had in the room. As I planned the design of my room I noticed that I had this rug pinned to my inspiration board.
It’s the Olin Rug from Crate and Barrel and I fell in love with the wide gray and white stripes. But it was out of my budget and I knew I could make one from my plain ERSLEV rug from Ikea that I bought many years ago for about $60. Bummer alert: I don’t think this rug is still available at Ikea. But these cotton rugs aren’t too hard to find. You could even use a low pile rug, or a flat weave sisal rug.
Once again, I had my hubby plan out my stripes for me. I wanted my stripes to be 10 inches wide and start and end with the plain rug. So he mapped it out for me and I got busy with my painters tape.
Bonus Tip: These sewing pens are a really handy item to have around. You can use either side to mark on fabric. I used the blue mark-be-gone side because I knew the moisture from the paint would make the line disappear. Then I didn’t have to worry about any leftover pencil marks.
I used some leftover Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey for the stripes.
I applied it with a roller and it went on really easily. I allowed the first coat to dry for about 2 hours and then I went back with a second coat.
I removed the tape while the second coat of paint was still wet and I allowed it to dry. Then I went back to seal the paint with some Sweet Pickins Supreme Soft Wax in Clear. I just put a little on my waxing brush and worked it into the fibers of the rug. It gave the stripes a nice sheen and softened them up a bit. I couldn’t be more pleased with the result.

Lovely! I actually like yours better than the c&b version. It looks more soft and cozy.
